Bike patrols are rapidly expanding across the United States, and other countries. They
are even becoming more present in the private sector, in areas such as hospitals, hotels, and shopping
centers.
The benefits of bike officers are apparent in terms of personal contact and interaction
with members of the community. A police officer on a bike has many advantages over traditional methods
of patrol. They have greatly enhanced mobility, can travel faster and farther than foot officers, and
they are able to patrol areas unreachable by car - especially in crowd and special event situations.
Bike patrols are cost effective - 10 to 15 bike officers can be fully outfitted for the
cost of one patrol car.
Coconut Creek Officer Tammy Kilgore is a full time bicycle patrol officer. She joined
the Department in September 1995 and has always been a part of the Patrol Unit. Officer Kilgore uses
both a traditional and an electronic
E-bike
as part of her daily patrol duties. She may be reached at 954-973-6700.
