Florida Tourist Development Tax Amnesty Program
 July 09, 2003
Broward County is participating in the Florida Department of Revenue's tax amnesty program in an effort to collect delinquent or unpaid tourist development taxes.
Through the program, taxpayers will still owe the same amount of taxes; however, taxpayers can save money on civil penalties and interest charges. Civil penalties, which could amount to as much as 50 percent of the taxes owed, will be waived during the amnesty period.
Interest charges may also be reduced by as much as 50 percent if the taxpayer has not already received notification of the tax liability, or 25 percent if the taxpayer has already been notified through a bill, audit, or other assessment. Taxpayers will not face criminal prosecution for delinquent or unpaid taxes during the amnesty period.
The program begins July 1 and will run through October 31. Requests to participate in the program must be received during this period.
